Everything I bake I learned in kindergarten

A young man who is very dear to my heart is celebrating his 14th birthday today.

Now.

As you may well realise, not only am I not IN THE LEAST BIT crafty, I am also not much of a baker.

But birthdays are very special days and require special culinary feats.

So, without further ado, I present you with the ice-cream cake I made this morning:

RECIPE:
Buy one tub of best cookies-n-cream ice cream available.
Remove from freezer and let sit on counter for a few minutes.
Place knife in hot water, then run it between ice-cream and inside of container.
Turn upside down onto plate.
Decorate.
Serve, with love.

The birthday boy's presents were hidden around the house. He was given 4 rhyming clues.

Candles and loud singing make Bluesy very nervous (we rescued him from the pound a year ago....and he has his little quirks), so he has to wear his anxiety wrap. He licked up all his ice-cream and went back to bed.
I wouldn't mind joining him actually.
OH...YES...AND THE WINNER OF THE GUESSING COMPETITION IS SUSE! THE TEXT MESSAGES WERE INDEED FROM THE FABULOUSLY ENTERTAINING AND MUCH ADORED KIM FROM ALLCONSUMING. (And, unlike me, she is also a culinary goddess).
Suse - Your limerick will soon be on its way to you. In fact, maybe I will deliver it....by hand....

You know that is what makes birthday cakes taste the best, don't you? When you serve 'em with love.

(Is that too corny?)

We always have two birthday cakes per person at our house because when it is your birthday you have to have cake for breakfast ;-)

wow, this is a fab trick :)
hope the whole of the birthday was very happy.

and I love that dog of yours,
he's gorgeous!
(...our dog back home is VERY fond of ice cream too and he'd go bananas if he wouldn't get something in his bowl when we have some)

Happy Birthday to your son! An ice cream cake sounds most delish, especially cookies and cream!

Love the ice cream cake...it is perfection.

Now I have to come up with something just as amazing this Thursday--for my nearly 14 year old...the bar has been raised.

Happy 14th Birthday Comment Box Boy!!!

Hope it was lots of fun!

PS-Blue is a sweet boy. I'm not telling Tex about the ice cream, though. He's already tubby enough as it is...

Happy birthday Master Commentbox!!!

I'm thrilled I am to receive an Eleanor Limerick, but most of all I'm thrilled that you blogged about the anxiety wrap!

Happy birthday, Commentbox boy! Was it the 16th? Same day as my boy? Glad you both got blue cakes!

now that is one in the eye for all those people blethering on about making cakes in mugs in the microwave

instant gratification. Fantastic.
